Philippine Sociological Society 2011 Conference

The Philippine Sociological Society 2011 Conference on the theme “Technology Reshaping Society: Society Shaping Technology?” will be held on 14-15 October 2011 at the Ateneo de Naga University, Naga, Camarines Sur. The Conference theme is broad enough to encompass the areas of study of sociologists as well as professionals and students in various disciplines whose interests are intimately linked to sociology.

In this connection, we invite you to form panels or present papers in the Conference. Attached is a more elaborate call for participation.

Thank you for considering our invitation. We look forward to a stimulating intellectual exchange in the Conference, and, equally important, to the reunion of our PSS community.

PSS 2010-2011 Officers

The PSS Board elected its officers during the Board Meeting on 07 December 2009. The Board, elected during the General Elections on 17 October 2009, will serve for two years effective January 2010. The officers and members of the Board are:President: Dr. Cynthia Rose B. Bautista (University of the Philippines-Diliman)Vice-President: Dr. Virginia Miralao (Philippine Social Science Council)

Secretary: Ms. Leslie V. Advincula-Lopez (Ateneo de Manila University)

Treasurer: Dr. Manuel Diaz (Philippine Social Science Council)

Members: Dr. Filomeno Aguilar (Ateneo de Manila University)

Dr. Lorna Makil (Silliman University)

Dr. Emma Porio (Ateneo de Manila University)

Ms. Zona Amper (San Carlos University)

Dr. Bautista is Professor of Sociology at the Department of Sociology, UP Diliman, and was the former Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy of the same university. She also served as the Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Philippine Social Science Council in 1988.

The PSS would like to thank the 2008-2009 Board for its efforts to continuously develop a vibrant community of sociology and sociology-related professionals in the country. Such efforts include the successful conduct of the 2009 PSS National conference.

The 2008-2009 Members of the Board are:

The Philippine Sociological Society elected its new Board of Directors on 17 October 2009. The members of the Board, who will serve from 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2011, are:

Dr. Filomeno Aguilar Jr (Ateneo de Manila University), Ms. Zona Hildegard Amper (University of San Carlos), Dr. Ma. Cynthia Rose Bautista (University of the Philippines in Diliman), Ms. Leslie Lopez (Ateneo de Manila University), Ms. Lorna Makil (Silliman University), Dr. Virginia Miralao (Philippine Social Science Council), and Dr. Emma Porio (Ateneo de Manila University). Immediate past president, Dr. Manuel Diaz, will also join the Board.

The PSS Board would like to thank the members who participated in the nomination and election processes. Serving in the 2009 PSS Elections Committee were Dr. Czarina Saloma-Akpedonu, Dr. Esmeralda Sanchez, and Fr. Delfo Canceran.

2009 PSS National Conference: Change of venue

The venue of the 2009 PSS National Conference on 16-17 October 2009 has been moved from UP Baguio to the Philippine Social Science Center in Quezon City.

The heavy flooding and threat of landslides brought about by the typhoons have made travel to Baguio very difficult and unsafe.
